Profile

The Jive Aces are the UK's top Jive & Swing band. Since forming in 1989 this professional six piece group have starred at thousands of festivals theatres clubs and major charity and corporate events throughout Britain USA France, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Eire, Belgium, Holland, The Caribbean, Estonia, Israel, Hungary and Canada.
The Jive Aces are renowned for their high energy Jump Jive music, an exciting and very danceable blend of Swing, R&B, Rock 'n' Roll, Boogie & Jump Blues.
The band have just got back from the Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival in Northern Ireland and what a festival it was! The band, booked there for the fourth year running, played six shows in four days (each one completely sold out) as well as three radio shows, a newspaper shoot that made the front page and a TV spot for the evening news. The logo for this year’s festival, on all of the festival posters, ads and brochures, was a silhouette of Jive Aces frontman Ian Clarkson.
The highlight was a special reception with the Mayor of Derry, who presented the band with the prestigious "City of Derry International Music Award". Previous recipients of this award were Van Morrison and Jools Holland, so the Jive Aces are in very good company! Thank you very much to all of our friends at the festival and look forward to seeing you again soon. As summer draws near the Jive Aces have a lot of festival appearances coming up including: Wychwood, Rhythms of the World, Silda, Bude, Upton-upon-Severn, Glenn Miller Festival and opening for Status Quo at Henley Festival.
Their fantasic stage show combines a mix of fresh arrangements of swing and Jive, R&B classics, songs made famous by such greats as Louis Prima (Just a Gigolo), Cab Calloway (Minnie the Moocher) and Louis Jordan (Five Guys named Moe) along with superb swinging originals taken from their studio albums. The band has entertained hundreds of thousands of people around the world including HRH Prince Philip, Tom Cruise and John Travolta.
The Jive Aces are: Ian Clarkson - Lead Vocals & Trumpet "Big" John Fordham - Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Clarinet Alex Douglas - Trombone Vince "Professor" Hurley - Piano Ken Smith - Double Bass Peter "Bilky" Howell - Drums
The Jive Aces have performed at countless major events including Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, The Royal Ballet's 50th Anniversary, World Lindy Hop Dance Championships (Oslo '95 and New York '99), The Lord Mayors Spectacular, Vienne Jazz Festival, City of London Festival, Cannes Film Festival official party, Cork Jazz Festival and many, many more.
They have been featured on hundreds of TV and radio shows including special features on CNN, BBC1, ABC's “Good Morning Los Angeles”, Channel 4's “Holy Smoke” BBC Radio 2's “Paul Jones Show”, JazzFM, the one-hour PBS Special “A Swingin’ Christmas” and an eight week residency on the hit Italian show “Niente Popo Dimenoche”.
The Jive Aces are frequently commended by fellow professionals for their high standards and professionalism both on and off stage. As the stage manager of the Royal Albert Hall wrote after a show-stopping appearance: “Thank you for your wonderful performance at the Royal Albert Hall. The Jive Aces were a pleasure to work with and I know you were a big hit”.
The Jive Aces have worked alongside many of the top names in the business, including John Travolta, Isaac Hayes, Van Morrison, Count Basie Orchestra , Buddy Greco, Jamie Cullum, Kirstie Allie, Acker Bilk, Jack Dee, David Suchet, Lee Evans and Juliette Lewis to name just a few.
And on the recording front, for those eagerly awaiting a new Jive Aces album there's good news: The band has managed to squeeze the time needed to finish their new masterpiece into their very busy tour schedule! This means that The Jive Aces will be at the Mad Hatter Studios, Hollywood in early June 06 and while in California will be the featured band at "Swing Out Pasadena", one of the USA's biggest annual swing events.

Comments:
I wanted to take a few minutes to write a note of personal thanks for the amazing contribution you made to the Children In Need event on Friday. I was extraordinarily impressed not just by the professionalism which you exuded on the night, but also by the willingness to work within the often very strange demands of television. I'm not sure if you have had the chance to see the result on television, but you looked and sounded great. I also know that you could almost certainly have made a lot more money by turning us down and doing another show - so for that, as much as anything else, we are truly and deeply grateful. Many thanks once again
